Sofia's natural playground rises to 2,290 meters just south of the city. A national park since 1934, Vitosha offers hiking trails for all levels, skiing in winter, and the unique Zlatni Mostove (Golden Bridges) stone river. The Cherni Vruh peak provides panoramic views of the entire Sofia valley. Accessible by public transport from the city center in under an hour.
Take bus 66 from Hladilnika to reach the trails. The Golden Bridges stone river is the most popular site. Bring layers - it's always cooler at altitude.
